The Friends of GTR 1008 formed in January of 2020. Despite the challenges of moving forward during the COVID pandemic, the group continued to work with the St. Lawrence Parks Commission to forge an agreement to take stewardship of the train and its cars.
The agreement was finalized in November of 2021, and the FGTR 1008 held its official Preservation Project launch later that month on November 27.
